quilting

i went to a quilting bee today :-) it was a week long thing, they were quilting a flying geese quilt to raffle off for a charity. i put in about an hour or so on wednesday, and went back today for another 5 hours. i was the youngest one there, no shock. the head lady said i had beautiful stitches :-D they do this about once a year, so i think i'll go back next year if i can. it was fun, but my fingers are sooooo sore.

i have about 15 hexagons (6 sided, right?) done for my blanket. 1 skein makes about 4/5 hexagons, so that's not too bad. it's definitly gonna take longer than i thought to do.

i have one pair of gloves done for my grandma. it's a fingerless pattern, but i altered it a bit so that the thumb is a bit more covered than it was originally. the pair i made her last year were somewhat short, so i'm making this new pair longer, so it'll cover a bit past her wrists.

The start of something ugly...

I was cleaning the other day and came across a bunch of yarn that...well...is horrible. I inherited a bag of mixed yarn from a lady's neighbor, and half of it was acrylic of all colors, and striped and what not. I tried to give away to the good will, but apparently they don't take yarn? so i've started a granny square blanket. it is sure to be something that only a mother could love.

trees

Here is my tree, and then the one I did in the foyer. It has cinnamon ornaments using a Martha Stewart recipe. 3 years old, and they still smell like new :)

mmmm...fresh pine

we went to the tree farm yesterday and got us a tree! :) we didn't notice until we got home though, that the thing has 2 trunks. who'da thought? if you stand in front of it, it's beautiful. if you stand to the side, it looks like it's about to fall over :P and ryan (nephew) bought a tree. it's this pitiful 3 ft high tree, if it's even that tall. told him he could chop down a little tree for himself, so he picks this thing that has like 5 branches. cute. we told him to find something bigger. he starts crying and says he doesn't want mommy to get poor buying a big tree. we had to hide the laughter :) we finally convinced him to get a bigger tree. not much better, but it's bigger.

my tree is all done :D i just need to figue out how the heck to take a decent picture of it.

alrighty, i got everything i need for my tree. only thing left is the topper. i'm debating between making an angel or a star.

i turned my pattern in for the 2008 stitch 'n bitch calendar today. so yay!

Deck the Halls...

I'm redoing my tree this year, and decided i wanted a victorian feel. pink ribbons, pink roses, pink glass balls, little crystals to sparkle, and nice white lights. as much as i've looked online, i can find nothing that looks like this. in a way i guess that's good. means i can't copy : P only blot in this plan now is that i can't find pink roses. i can find red ones, i can find white ones, but no pink. so i may have to go with pink poinsettas. if i can find them. i really want to get this all bought before thanksgiving, cause after, all the stores will be crazy. so here's hoping : )
